Oboe Masterclass with Marin Tinev.
Born in Sofia, Marin Tinev is one of the most prominent Bulgarian oboists. His style combines the best elements of the French and German schools while retaining its distinctly Slavic essence. As an oboist, Marin is versatile, engaging in solo performances, orchestral practice, chamber music, and teaching.
He graduated with highest honors from the prestigious soloist class of world-renowned oboist and teacher Nicholas Daniel in Trossingen, Germany, after previously studying in Paris with David Walter and Nora Cismondi. Marin Tinev has participated in masterclasses with some of the world's most esteemed oboists, including Albrecht Mayer (principal oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic), Maurice Bourgue, Hansjörg Schellenberger, and Ingo Goritzki, all of whom significantly contributed to his artistic development.
Marin's orchestral career began at the age of 15 with the "Youth Philharmonic" in Sofia, followed shortly by engagements with the "New Symphony Orchestra" under the baton of Rossen Milanov. He later performed with ensembles such as the "Sofia Philharmonic," "Sofia Soloists," and the Classic FM Orchestra. In the 2008-2009 season, Marin served as principal oboist with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra under Rossen Milanov’s direction. This foundational experience led him to international stages, including Scotland, where he was guest principal oboist of the Royal National Orchestra of Scotland during the 2012-2013 season, and Germany, where he served as deputy principal oboist of the Stuttgart Opera Orchestra from 2013 to 2019. Since January 2014, he has been a guest member of the Munich Chamber Orchestra, performing in Europe’s most prestigious venues alongside celebrated soloists such as Edita Gruberová, Douglas Boyd, and Alice Sara Ott. His orchestral expertise earned him an invitation to serve as principal oboist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in Canada.
Marin Tinev's solo repertoire spans a wide range of musical eras, from Baroque masterpieces to contemporary works.
As a pedagogue, Marin began gathering teaching experience in 2012 as an assistant to Prof. Nicholas Daniel at the Musikhochschule Trossingen, where he later served as a guest lecturer from 2015 to 2019. During this period, he also taught oboe at the Musikschule Winnenden. Since 2020, Marin has embraced online teaching, working with students worldwide and further expanding his pedagogical reach.
Since January 2025, he has been a Lecturer at the Vienna Premier Music Academy (VPMA), where he mentors Highly Gifted musicians.
