Cameron Smith is an accomplished performer and instrumental music teacher, specializing in trumpet performance. He graduated from the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) in 2002, where he majored in Trumpet Performance. His musical journey began early, playing in a wide variety of community ensembles, which sparked his passion for collaborating and performing across various genres, from jazz combos to symphony orchestras and musical theater.


Cameron’s true musical love lies in the vibrant sounds of New Orleans, and he regularly performs and writes music in the traditional jazz and second-line styles, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich musical heritage. As a performer, Cameron has toured both nationally and internationally, playing at prestigious festivals such as the Woodford Folk Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, and the Wuxi Festival in China. He has also performed at Black Mountain Unplugged in Far North Queensland and the UB Jazz Club in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.


Now based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Cameron teaches instrumental music at Northbridge International School and classroom music at Berkeley International School Phnom Penh. He is an active performer, regularly playing with several bands, including the New Orleans jazz group Jazz Sauce, ska band Checkered Past, western swing band Joe and the Jumping Jacks, the eclectic Electric Muxu Orchestra, the Balkan brass band Maki Orchestra, and the Rock and Soul band Plan B. Cameron’s diverse musical talents continue to inspire and engage audiences around the world.


Since January 2025, he has been a Lecturer at the Vienna Premier Music Academy (VPMA), where he mentors Highly Gifted musicians.
